A bottle of campaign weighs 900 grams, that’s its standard weight, while wine bottles are between 450 and 500 grams. This is because of the pressure exercised on its interior walls.
From now on, the new standard chic bottle will be 385 grams, as was decided by the Interprofessional Committee for the Champaign Vine.
The article goes on to say that in essence not much changes, the change wouldn’t be visible to the eye. However, this was good news for the environment, as the change would reduce the CO2 emissions by 25%. As the 65 grammes difference would amount to a reduction of 8000 tonnes per year of carbon dioxide, the equivalent of 4000 cars.
Small change, big impact.
